Charlie Metcalfe (b. 1997) is a British journalist. His work has been published and broadcast by over 20 major media organisations including WIRED, The Guardian, and BBC Radio 4. He has discussed his stories on BBC Radio 5 Live, and several have been translated into other languages, including German, Italian, and Japanese.

Charlie studied multimedia journalism at News Associates in London and graduated with the top grade in 2021. He speaks native English, good German and French, and a little Arabic (Iraqi dialect). He has mentored journalists participating in the Tarbell Fellowship, and lectured students about foreign and freelance journalism. He has trained to work in hostile environments (HEFAT).

In September 2021, Charlie walked 450km across Iraq, following the ancient pilgrim’s way from Basra to Karbala for the Shia festival of Arba’een. The Royal Geographical Society made him a fellow in 2022.

Charlie has reported from across Europe and Iraq. Hegrew up in London, England, and now lives beneath a hilltop monastery in central Germany.
